Fantastic DVD including all the essential footage from the band's illustrious career + the extras cover every detail from the band's history to the full story behind the record sleeves
A must for any Roxy fan -- More Than This
This is an enjoyable doc on arguably one of the finest bands ever. I find it a bit lightweight in parts, though, and tells the story without really getting into what made the band so great. Ferry seems purposefully vague, but he's a diffident interview anyway - he rarely opens out. Personally, I could do without anything that Bono has to say about anything, although the Steve Jones and Siouxsie bits are good fans-eye views. On a broader level, it's frustrating to have footage of Roxy in the studio, and then to read that Ferry has seemingly but the blocks on there ever being a new Roxy album. -- Good, but not quite definitive...
An absolute must for all Roxy fans , it tells the story of the greatest band since The Beatles .
From the early days to the reunion tour and has great interviews with Bryan Ferry , Andy Mackay , Phil Manzanera , Paul Thompson , Eno , Gary Tibbs, Eddie Jobson and many more .
It finishes off with Roxy in the studio working and rehearsing for the new album with Brain Eno !
GREAT STUFF !!! -- A must for Roxy fans !
This DVD is essentially an extended version of the documentary shown in 2008 on BBC4.It traces the history of one of the most important and influential bands in rock history-Roxy Music.
Their influence is so wide and deep in modern music that often the radical nature of Ferry's original vision(fleshed out with Eno,MacKay,Manzanera and Thompson) is forgotten. This documentary sets this to rights.Artists as diverse as Bono,John Taylor(Duran Duran),Martin Ware(Heaven 17)and Siouxsie Sue(Siouxsie and the Banshees)all contribute their opinions.
This extended version includes pieces on Antony Price and his work on the covers of Roxy Music albums,on Eddie Jobson:the violin playing wunderkind who replaced Eno in 1973 and on Gary Tibbs and the ever changing Roxy bass players.
This is an excellent introduction for new fans and a great stroll down memory lane for Roxy fans(who know how important they were).But....the most tantalising bit of the DVD is the footage of the work on the 9th(i.e NEW!!!) Roxy Music album with Ferry,Manzanera,MacKay,Thompson AND ENO(!!!) all in the studio. They could be about to do it all over again! -- An influence which has lasted through the years
This is not Total Recall. It features interviews and short clips of various tracks over the years with comments from band members and those that were influenced by their music. Includes live versions of Both Ends Burning, Editions of You and Do the Strand from Dock Rock 2006 -- Not Total Recall
